Meet Quincy Grant – Musician and Composer for Wolfgang in the Stars

Meet Quincy Grant our musician and composer for Wolfgang in the Stars.

We asked Quincy a few questions about his experience composing new music for the world premiere of Wolfgang in the Stars ⭐️

  • What’s the process like collaborating with Yaron/Circa?

Well, Yaron and I have done quite a few shows together so in some ways we are similar minds and we have a broad range of interests that click with each other so it’s an exciting place to be. I never know quite what will happen! But still, I guess that’s what making shows is and it’s certainly fun. There are always some challenging aspects to it, we always try and go deep in some ways, mix some things as much as possible. Combination of challenge, fun and always lovely just meeting Yaron’s mind.

  • What inspires you about Mozart’s music?

Wofie – well it’s phenomenally beautiful, serene, sad, comic at times but playful he is quite an impish sort of character and beautiful musician. Of course, he didn’t live to be that old but he wrote an extraordinary amount of music – his work output was just extraordinary, most people wouldn’t be able to copy out that amount of music in their life let alone write it. He wrote 10s of thousands of pages of manuscript for instance. Just beautiful work, amazing.

  • What are you most excited about for Wolfgang in the Stars?

Outside Circa I really haven’t worked with many physical performers, I’ve done a little bit of dance…so I just love working with these physical performers. I’d love to see what they’ll be doing design wise and costuming so just really looking forward to that and how it comes together.

Also, I love performing so it’s going to be a lovely spot to perform.

  • How does Wolfgang in the Stars differ from Wolfgang’s Magical Musical Circus and how has the process evolved?

We are just sort of making a start, early days, I’d say this piece will be less comic and less slapstick in that way and more like a journey and travel through the stars as Mozart searches for his sanity and searches for his ideas, having a crisis and using that idea of him travelling and having a journey through the cosmos – internal and external and encountering characters and then finally solving his problem and returning to life again.

  • Three words to describe Wolfgang in the Stars?

Journey, Mystical and Inspiration
