Every year begins with a mixture of excitement and terror. Excitement at the new creations we have to make (5 this year), the in-repertoire work we will tour (to at least 13 countries this year), the new collaborations, new people and new places. And terror at the responsibility of making every show and workshop something special – a genuine enactment of our mission to create and present circus that moves the heart, the mind and the soul.
An arts company is a little world and it gives me great delight to invite you into ours – it is a world full of passionate people striving to make great art, working to connect their astonishing skills with the deepest needs of our audiences. These are perilous and complex times and they demand an unflinching art – one that’s unafraid to celebrate connectedness, imagination and humanity, even as it grapples with complexities and challenges. Circa is committed to redrawing the boundaries of what is possible to say with circus and this has never been more timely or more necessary.
