Revoir les étoiles/ To See the Stars Again is a major new creation from Circa, Australia’s leading contemporary circus company. Directed by Yaron Lifschitz and performed by twelve ensemble acrobats with a four-piece live band, the creation is staged on a vast field of hundreds of lightbulbs; a landscape that becomes both constellation and terrain. The title is drawn from the final line of Dante’s Inferno: after traversing the darkest depths, the poet emerges to glimpse the stars once more. Here, that moment of re-emergence becomes circus: fragile, luminous, and searching. Bodies climb, tumble, and soar through ropes, poles, and aerial apparatus against the glowing expanse. Brecht wrote: “In dark times, will there also be singing? Yes, there will be singing about the dark times.” Circa rewrites Brecht with a hard-won ending. In this creation, there is not only singing about the dark-but singing toward the light.
